GetResponse Review 2026: Honest Breakdown for a One-Person Business

Most email tools sell you one thing: sending newsletters. GetResponse sells you a whole marketing department — email, automation, landing pages, sales funnels, webinars, and even a course builder, all in one login. For a one-person business, that breadth is either the best deal on the market or a lot of rooms you will never enter. I checked GetResponse’s pricing page and feature lists line by line so you can see which one it is for you — and exactly where the plan limits bite.
Prices checked October 2026 against getresponse.com/pricing. Plans and prices change, so confirm on the pricing page before you commit.
What Is GetResponse, Really?
GetResponse is an email marketing and automation platform that has grown into an all-in-one marketing tool. At its core it sends newsletters and automated email sequences. Around that core it adds a landing page builder, signup forms, a visual automation builder, sales funnels, ecommerce tools like abandoned cart recovery, webinar hosting, a website builder, and a course creator with paid newsletter subscriptions.
That matters because it changes who GetResponse is for. If you only need a newsletter, half the dashboard is irrelevant to you. If you plan to sell a course, run webinars, or build funnels within the next year, growing into one platform beats migrating between three tools later. This review judges it on both counts.
The Pricing Tiers (October 2026)
GetResponse charges by contact count, not by emails sent. Every paid plan includes unlimited monthly email sends. Prices below are for the starting tier of 1,000 contacts; larger lists (2,500, 5,000, 10,000, 25,000, 50,000, and 100,000 contacts) cost more, so check the pricing page at your actual list size before budgeting.
| Plan | Monthly billing (USD) | Yearly billing, standard 18% discount (USD) | Who it’s for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | $0 | Validating an idea — up to 500 contacts, 2,500 newsletters a month, with real limits (see below). |
| Starter | $19/mo | $15.58/mo | Solo operators who need email plus one automation workflow and landing pages. |
| Marketer | $59/mo | $48.38/mo | Growing businesses and stores that live on automation, segmentation, and funnels. |
| Creator | $69/mo | $56.58/mo | Creators monetizing an audience with webinars, courses, and paid newsletters. |
| Enterprise | Custom | Custom | Large lists and teams that need dedicated infrastructure and support. If you’re reading this review, it’s not for you. |
Two pricing notes from the live page. First, prices are shown as net amounts — local taxes may be added. Second, at the time of checking the pricing page showed an additional 15% promotional discount on yearly billing (Starter $13.24/month, Marketer $41.12/month, Creator $48.09/month). Promotions come and go, so budget around the standard yearly prices above and treat anything lower as a bonus.
Nonprofits get a permanent 50% discount on monthly plans, per GetResponse’s own site — worth knowing if that applies to you.
The Free Plan: Genuinely Free, With a 14-Day Clock
The free plan is a permanent free tier, not a trial that expires — and no credit card is required. What it gives you:
- Up to 500 contacts and 2,500 newsletters per month
- 1 landing page, signup and contact forms
- Basic email marketing tools
But the first 14 days are the catch, in both directions. For 14 days you get premium features to try. After that, you lose access to them, and the free tier’s real limits show:
- A GetResponse badge is added to every message you send — it only comes off on a paid plan
- Landing page visits are limited to 1,000 unique visitors per month
- Automation workflows can be created, but the dynamic segment filter is not available
- Webinars are limited to 10 people during the trial period
The honest read: the free plan is enough to run a real small newsletter and validate an idea. It is not enough to run automated sequences properly — and that is by design. The free tier is the on-ramp, not the destination.
The Automation Gate: Starter Gives You Exactly One Workflow
This is the single most important limit in GetResponse’s pricing, and the one most reviews bury.
Starter includes a visual automation builder — but only 1 custom automation workflow. A welcome email series is included separately, so your one workflow is your one extra sequence. If you need a welcome series and a nurture sequence, or a welcome series and an abandoned cart flow, Starter cannot do it. You need Marketer at $59/month for unlimited workflows.
Marketer also unlocks the features that make automation actually useful for a store or a growing list: advanced audience segmentation, abandoned cart recovery, sales funnels, promo codes with revenue reports, and unlimited web push notifications. Starter also allows 3 users on the account; Marketer and Creator allow 5.
One more Starter limit worth knowing: its AI content generators are limited to 3 uses. If AI-assisted email writing is a feature you plan to lean on daily, that limit will frustrate you fast.
What Each Plan Actually Includes
Starter ($19/month) — unlimited monthly email sends, AI-powered content generators (limited to 3 uses), welcome email series, 1 custom automation workflow, landing page builder, signup forms and popups, ecommerce integrations, and a free custom domain on the yearly plan.
Marketer ($59/month) — everything in Starter, plus unlimited automation workflows, advanced audience segmentation, abandoned cart recovery, sales funnels, promo codes and revenue reports, unlimited web push notifications, and unlimited landing pages.
Creator ($69/month) — everything in Marketer, plus webinars for up to 100 attendees, a website builder, a course creator for up to 500 students, and premium newsletter subscriptions. This is the plan for creators who monetize directly: teach, host, and charge, without bolting on a separate webinar or course tool.
Enterprise (custom) — everything above, plus a dedicated sending domain, dedicated IP address, single sign-on, SMS marketing, mobile push notifications, transactional emails, AI product recommendations, student management, and premium priority support.
Ease of Use: Powerful, and Busy Because of It
GetResponse packs website builder, webinars, courses, funnels, and ecommerce into one dashboard, which means more menus to learn than a newsletter-only tool. It is not difficult, exactly — the editors are visual and the workflow builder is drag-and-drop — but solo users who only need email will find half the dashboard irrelevant at first. That is the trade for breadth: you pay in learning curve for features you may not use for months.
Support is solid on paper: live chat in English (7 AM–11 PM, weekends 7 AM–9 PM, GMT+1), a chatbot available 24/7, and email support 24/7 in seven languages. Phone-style priority support is reserved for Enterprise.
Deliverability: What I Will and Won’t Claim
I am not going to quote you inbox-placement percentages — those numbers come from vendors’ own labs or tiny samples, and they change constantly. What I can say honestly: GetResponse is a long-established sender with dedicated sending infrastructure (a dedicated domain and IP) available on Enterprise, and its pricing page is upfront about the free tier’s badge and limits rather than hiding them. In practice, deliverability problems in 2026 come far more often from bad list hygiene and spammy content than from which legitimate platform you pick.
How It Compares
GetResponse sits between the simple newsletter tools and the heavy automation specialists. Against AWeber, it gives you more features per dollar once you pay — funnels, webinars, courses — but AWeber is simpler and gives you more automation at the lowest paid price. Against Brevo, the pricing models differ entirely: Brevo charges by emails sent, which wins if you have a big list but send rarely, while GetResponse’s unlimited sends win if you email often. For the full three-way breakdown, see our AWeber vs GetResponse vs Brevo (2026) comparison.
One more comparison worth making: if you mainly sell digital products through funnels and don’t need webinars or courses yet, a funnel builder can be cheaper than GetResponse’s Marketer tier. GetResponse earns its price when you will actually use the automation depth, the funnels, or the creator tools — not before.
Who It’s For (and Who Should Skip It)
Good fit if you are…
- Planning to run serious automation, funnels, or webinars within the next year
- Monetizing an audience with courses or paid newsletters (Creator is built for this)
- Running a store that needs abandoned cart recovery and ecommerce triggers
- Happy to grow into one platform instead of migrating later
- Emailing often enough that unlimited sends matter
Skip it if you…
- Only need a newsletter — a simpler or cheaper tool covers you
- Need two or more automation workflows but can’t justify $59/month yet
- Have no list yet — start on the free plan, not a paid tier
- Want the simplest possible tool — GetResponse’s breadth means a busier dashboard
Pros and Cons
Pros
- Unlimited email sends on every paid plan
- Genuinely usable free tier (500 contacts, 2,500 sends a month, no credit card)
- The most features per dollar at the mid tier: funnels, webinars, and courses in one login
- Scales from free to enterprise without migrating platforms
- Nonprofit discount of 50%
Cons
- Starter’s single automation workflow is a hard ceiling — the real automation price is $59/month
- AI tools limited to 3 uses on Starter
- Free tier carries GetResponse branding and a 1,000-visitor monthly landing page cap
- Busy dashboard if you only need email
- Prices are net — local taxes may be added
Verdict
GetResponse is the best value in email marketing for a one-person business that will actually use what it bundles — with one condition. If your plan is a newsletter plus a welcome series, Starter at $19/month is fair, and the free tier lets you prove the idea first. If your business will live on automation, funnels, or creator tools, budget for Marketer at $59/month or Creator at $69/month from the start, because Starter’s one-workflow limit will force the upgrade anyway. Start free, let revenue decide when you upgrade, and don’t pay for rooms you won’t enter for a year.
